General features. Contemporary history in nutshell.

"Mikhail Gorbatchov did not destroy only the Soviet Union. He destroyed all the word". (A Mongolian entrepeneur on Pyongyang in a meeting in 2000).

After the collapse of the Soviet Union president Boris Yeltsin succeeded to ruin Russia both politically and in economics. There seemed to be no light in the end of tunnel in the nineties in Russia and in other CIS-countries.

The children in the city of Leningrad went to school and they were taken care of. In St. Petersburg a lot of children lived often in the sewerage system with rats.

Protection of people and nature was the nuclear of the long-term planning in the SU in spite of the fact that the practical results were not always the best possible.

Science of the SU was on high level. The fusion reactor designed to produce energy without pollution was almost ready in the SU. Now the project has disappered. The selfish short-term commercial interestes won the long-term sense. With the SU the mankind lost a lot.

An essential part of the national property in Russia was sold to domestic or to foreign speculators.

Collapse of the SU was a serious setback for all the mankind. Workers movement and anti-capitalist opposition all around the world lost crucially their influence on politics.

There are a lot of speculative reasons for this reverse. Yet attention is easily paid on the two weak state leaders, the last leader of the SU and the untalented first president of capitalist Russia, traitor of the CPSU.

However, during president Vladimir Pitin´s era people in Russia saw strong signs of improvement.

The president limited oligarchy´s power in many ways. Capitalists who have committed crimes are prosecuted. Media owners´ power is restricted by limiting TV-advertising.

In June 2002 the Duma accepted a law to allow private land ownership.

In July 2001 a decision was made to save Lenin´s mausoleum.

In February 2002 a wide-based Labour Party of Russia was established.

In December 2001 big Russian bourgeois parties have been united to form one coalition to support the president and the government. Hence remnants of democracy are intended to be destroyed.

The communists´ May Day celebrations and demonstrations were in 2002 - 2008 the largest since the collapse of the SU..

In Russia, the Public Opinion fund has conducted a poll to find out the most popular politicians in July 2002. Russians mainly consider their former Communistic leaders as the most outstanding public figures. The winner of the poll was Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin), who took 14 percent of the vote. He is followed by Iosif Stalin with nine percent..

In November 2002 proposals put forward by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) for a referendum on important economic and social questions has been vetoed by the conservative majority of the Duma.

Nearly seven out of 10 Russians wish the Soviet Union had never collapsed, according to a new poll released on December 30th, 2002 on the 80th nniversary of the creation of the Communist bloc. In the beginning of 2003 Russian youngsters favour visibly Soviet Union and Soviet nostalgy.

In March 2003 Josif Stalin was in Russia widely honoured because of his death´s 50th anniversary.

On April 22nd, 2003 Communist Party chief Gennady Zyuganov honored the 133rd anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Lenin by laying flowers at the Red Square mausoleum where the Soviet founder's embalmed body remains on public view.

In July 2003 president Vladimir Putin launched heavy police operations against the politically powerful oil companies. The companies and their leaders are suspected for serious crimes.

Russian oil magnate, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, was taken into custody on October 25th, 2003. May this act have been start of cancelling privatizations? Anyway half of shares of the giantic Yukos-company have been frozen by the Russian state.

On November 7th 2003 -2008 the anniversary of October Revolution was in Russia widely celebrated with red masses of flags.

In January 2004 president Vladimir Putin ordered legality of the former privatizations to be investigated. In March 2004 president Vladimir Putin was re-elected.

May 2004. The WTO-membership of Russia seems to become true. Joined signifigance of Russia and China in the WTO may mean changing of the caharcter of the WTO and power stability of the world.

September 2004. Terror attacks in Russia rose up questions. Who supports the terrorists? Are the terror attacks linked with the confrontation between NATO and Russia at Georgia - Ossetia borders? Whose political interests need chaos in Russia? Anyway Russian FM accused the U.S. for double-standards because of the U.S. hypocricy on the problem of terrorism.

In autumn 2004 V.V. Putin concentrated still more power to himself.

On September 29th, 2004 the Russian government accepted the Kyoto climate agreement.

On December5th, 2004 Vladimir Putin did not save his words when speaking of the U.S. world hegemonism with Indian PM in New Delhi.

In March 2005 it became very evident that Russia had adopted new anti-American dimensions. New relations with Cuba, Venezuela and Iran were a clear sign to Washington: We do not obey you any more.

May 2005 - 2008. The day of Victory was celebrated in Moscow to commemorate Soviet Union´s 60th anniversary day of victory of the Great partiotic war. Russians and even state officials expressed their appreciation to the Soviet Union and to J.V. Stalin.

August 2005. By Duma´s decicion Russia began to organize the regional administration system again on Soviet basis.

January 2006. Putin´s regime published a plan to build up again social services. At the same time the Russian goverment continued its activities to to gain more power in the national economy by adding state ownership and state control over big companies.

December 2006. A Russian Gallup research company issued results of a study according to which 56.3% of Russians lamented disintegration of the SU and looked forward for a new East European integration system. The CIS political decisionmakers would draw right conclusions on this basis...

April 2007. The first remarkable memorial festival at Lenin´s Mauseoleum was held at the Red Square since beginning of the restauration works of the mausoleun building in November 2006.

November 2007. The 90th anniversary of October Revolution was feted both in Russia and Belarus. In addition, world´s communist parties had meeting in Belarus.

Up to the end of 2007 some 70% of main Russian production had been returned under state ownership or control.

March 2008. Dmitri Mededev was elected president. No essential changes to be expected in national politics.

April 2008. Russia said no more loans from the World Bank needed.

Febryary 2009. Russian banks were subjected to tight governmental control.

Federation politics.

In August 1999 a military conflict was born in Dagestan. The timing of this conflict was too suitable for the actual Russian political crisis. The ruling quarters seemed to be afraid for the approaching parliamentary elections.

In September-December 1999 the conflict was changed to a large military attack against Chechenya. This struggle against "islamic terrorists" served the political goals of the Russian capitalist governement. Looking at the coming elections the timing of this process is hardly a coincidence...

Very likely the fingers of CIA have been involved in crisises of Chechenya, Dagestan and in Kirgysya. The imperialism led by USA is without any doubt very interested in the Caspian oil resources. Explosions in blocks in Russian cities may have their origin at the same crisis factory.

In November we were told that Russia is going to occupy all the Chechenya. Has this matter anything to do with the explosions in the blocks as startpoint of the struggle? Additonally, afterwards we heard that the attack on Chechenya was planned already in spring 1999.

The war in Chechenya continued in 2002 with bad results from the Russian point of view. Soldiers strike because of unpaid allowances. The Chechen rebels seem to be invincible. Quite obviously they have contacts with the militant exteremist in Georgia. Georgia is nowadays an ally of the U.S.

The process goes on.

The October revolution in Russia was a beginning of the revolutionary process. The civil war connected with the revolution continued for decades in different forms. In the early nineties the counter-revolutionary regressive powers winned. However, the process is going on.

The neighbour state Byelorussia and also other former states of the SU have turned their back to IMF. They have noted that the received money has changed to a tool of impoverishing.

Byelorussia complained reflections of Russian economic problems to their country. The western media turns the truth upside down. According to them Russia is an economical miracle, but Byelorussia cannot proceed that quickly. Yet a lot of people live in misery in Russia. In Byelorussia there was no starvation.

Byelorussia intends to continue on the way of socialism of its own kind. Their real economy is in much better condition than the Russian speculative economy. In 2000 the Byelorussian banking system has been re-nationalized after previous privatizations.

In June 1998 frantic Byelorussian people tried to expel the ambassador of USA from the country. The fury is directed to capitalism represented by the ambassador. Belarussians have protested also against other ambassadors of capitalist countries.

Byelorussia has organized her governmental systems in a new way in December 1998 in order to lift the export trade to a better level like it was during the Soviet era.

There is no parliament any more in Belarussia. The highest legislative organ is the Supreme Soviet. Byelorussians have re-established soviet system. Byelorussia is in a special danger to be threatened by NATO and EU like these imperialist powers did in Yugoslavia.

The western powers did their utmost to affect elections in Belarussia in September 2001 by using different forms of provocations. The target was another Yugoslavia... Yet contemporary president´s victory was that clear that western media´s hysteric explanations may be ignored.

Russia and Belarus move to step up economic integration. Presidents of the two countries signed the necessary documents in April 2002.

****

Russia and Belarussia have intended to form a state union. In January 2003 the project was again going on after president Putin´s new proposal.

February 2005. A new draft of the Constitution of the Union State of the Russian Federation and Belarus, which may be adopted this year, is, in effect, a constitution for a single federal state. Under the draft, defense, trade, monetary, currency, tax, and other major policies are vested in supranational institutions.

February 2005. Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were organizing a joint air defense system.

In 2005 the Russia - Belarus union state was de facto a reality.

In 2003 Georgia became NATO´s ally against Russia. There is a danger of armed clashes between Russia and NATO at that area. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on August 10th, 2002 that Russia, Kazakhstan and other countries on the Caspian coast might set up a joint defense contingent in the area.

The political and economic chaos in Eastern Europe has been useful for the American imperialism in its aims to govern all the world. Maybe the absurd loans given to unprofitable projects in Russia to capital- and criminal circles have been targeted to cause internal contradictions? The rule of imperialist politics is "Divide Et Impera". On the plain economic basis the Soviet Union was more useful for world capitalism than the contemporary impoverishing CIS-countries.

People in Russia understand the real aims of the western capitalism especially at Caucasus oil area. The imperialism is planning for a pipeline from Caucasus to a Turkish port at the Mediterranean in order to exploit the oil which used to belong to Russia.

NATO arms the Caucasus countries. Instead of the confrontation of the cold war era a new dangerous geopolitical contradiction has born between USA and Russia. USA approaches the smaller countries close to the Caspian oil area. USA is going to modernize the army of Ukraine.

Yet NATO has a lot of headaches in eastern Europe. The war on Yugoslavia was a military and political fiasco. Russia turned its back to NATO. The western powers have never succeeded to enter Byelorussia.

Kidnapping of former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic to the Hague political "court" precedes future processes in case NATO expands to east. That is why countries and people in eastern Europe are now even more close to each other. Western countries have been unanimously strongly condemned by people and by governmenets.

According to military experts USA needs Turkey´s help in its efforts to get the Caspian oil. On the other hand, the EU is about to accept the membership of the militant Turkey. Under the contemporary leadership of Russia the country is on the way to fascism. In eastern Europe there extists together all elements of dangerous idiotism.

The Russian Duma accepted in May 2001 in practice unanimously a resolution to resist NATO´s expansion to east Europe.

In June 2001 the presidents of Russia and USA met each other. In this connection it became clear that Russia does not accept NATO´s military expansion to east.

Russia is planning for its own missile defence system. Russia does not accept the new national US nuclear missile shield plan as a part of world security system.

In July 2001 Russian President Vladimir Putin said on that NATO should be disbanded and replaced by a pan-European security body that included Russia.

There were speculations of Russia´s possible joining to NATO. It is an impossible idea. Pentagon would never give Russia any kind of power in their decisionmaking. On the other hand, the Kremlin would never accept subjugated status in NATO.

In July 2001 Russia said it is interested in WTO access. According to the WTO Russian national legislation must be compatible with WTO´s demands before the possible joining. Russian have stated clearly that they are not going to change their legislation before the WTO membership.

In September 2001 relations between Russia and USA worsened bacause USA unilaterally informed not to honor the ABM treaty.

In October 2001 the Russian-American relations seemed to be better for a while. The countries had same goals in the "fight against terrorism", yet for different reasons. USA wants to get into Asian territory, Russia´s aim is to suppress rebel activities in Chechenya.

One can assume that on the background of the new peculiar improved relations there is an American promise to stop supporting rebels on Chechenya. Chechen rebels´ military training has US origin.

Russia was anyway obliged to get involved in the Asian operation because it cannot allow NATO to operate alone without control in its backyards.

It is easy for the Russian president to join in his words to USA´s presidents declaration for "fight against terrorism". Yet the very origin of terrorism inside Russia is according to many circumstancial evidences the CIA...

New equation gives Russia added political weight. The country already had 10,000 troops on the Afghan border and a significant intelligence network in the region. The attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon have not only changed the physical landscape, they have shifted the geopolitical landscape--and Russia finds its position markedly improved.

Because of its strenghtened position Russia has been able to ease relations with NATO. Russia accepts NATO´s enlargening to east in case NATO transforms from military league to a political organization. Yet NATO is a tool of US agressive military politics. The idea may not be very realistic....

It is possible that Russia´s rather moderate stance on the US attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq prevented in some way beginning of a large inter-state war which would benefit interests of world capitalism.

The western adventures in Afghanistan and in Iraq had according to certain speculations led Russia to reach the geopolitical goals in which the SU failed. Russian troops are now in Asia to secure Russian interests in Caspian oil and in general regional interests in that area.

Mr. Putin´s visit to USA in November 2001 did not remove the mutual suspects in spite of what has been said in the main speeches and often explained by the western media. No agreement on the fate of AMB-treaty. Additionally, Russia still opposed NATO´s enlargening to east. However, some kind of co-operation was a topic of talks.

In December 2001 Russian journalists anticipated Russia to give up western financing sources. In the first stage Russia would abandon the IMF. In August 2002 Russia and China signed a large trade and co-operation agreement. The monetary unit for trade in this document is the Chinese yan, not dollar or euro.

The Russia - US relations worsened again in the beginning of 2002, quite obviuosly because of NATO´s presence in Asia. Russia had earlier promised to dismantle their radar base in Cuba. In the middle of January 2002 Russia cancelled this information.

In January 2002 the US flattered Russia in order to create a common military system against "the threat of China and the DPRK". We can assume the Russians smile on this type of an infantile idea. Additionally, Russia has already now large co-operation agreements both with China and the DPRK.

In 2002 Russians were astonished because of president Putin´s moderate words in the clear contradiction on the axis Russia - NATO. However, it is possible that the president is obliged play time and to push forward future contradictions. He has allowed to establish the Russia - NATO council.

That new council and the treaty do not mean any kind of alliance. There is an organ for softening contradictions in military politics between Russia and NATO.

The new treaty does not give Russia any means to participate decisionmaking in NATO.

In 2002/2008 NATO does its utmost tho penetrate deeper into the former SU area. NATO threatens Russia especially through its contemporary ally Georgia. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on August 10th, 2002 that Russia, Kazakhstan and other countries on the Caspian coast might set up a joint defense contingent in the area. The coup détat in Georgia in November 2003 was no doubt programmed in west in order to cement western oil interests at the Caspian area.

The new nuclear warhead treaty in May 2002 did not actually change anything. The amount of nuclear warheads is not very important. The warheads exist.

In 2002/2008 several former Soviet republics are going to develope further their relations with People´s China. In October 2002 Belarus and Socialist Republic of Vietnam inked a large co-operation agreement.

March 2003. Several Russian politicians believed that the USSR will be restored in some form by 2007. It seems that the company spirit of the Russian nation is really strong: Russian people always have wish to unite with someone. So does the leadership of the country.

The talks and agreements between NATO and Russia in May 2002 did not have real contents. The contradictions continue. According to the power media negotiations for military co-operation between east European and Asian (SCO) countries has failed. It is not true. The co-operation developements are going on strong.

Immediatley after Putins´ meeting with Bush Chinese President Jiang Zemin arrived in St. Petersburg to attend the second summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Russia´s stance on NATO´s eastward expansion in the Prague summit in November 2002 was calm. Russia cannot stop NATO. However, at the same time the SCO held its visible meeting in Moscow. The SCO demands among other things US nukes off from Korean peninsula. In this connection preparations were made for Russian president´s visit to China. The visit was carried out in the beginning of December 2002. The Sino-Russian joint statement was clearly targeted against NATO and against the US idea of unipolar world.

In January 2003 Russia deciced to allocate remarkable resources to arms and army. Troops for strategic nuclear wepons are in special position. It may not be too difficult to guess targeting of the strategic missiles.

In spite of the diplomatic talks and a bit hesitating expressions it can be understood for sure that both Russia and China defend DPRK´s interests in the actual nuclear issue on Korean peninsula. A new Korean war might be possible by dishonest and manipulated UN resolution. That is why the DPRK insists direct dialogue between the DPRK and the US. Russia supports that model of proceeedongs.

In March 2003 Russia turned sharply against USA in the Iraq issue. Russian President Rejected 'Regime Change' in Iraq. After the US-led attack on Iraq Russian president, government, parliament and communists demanded for its immediate end. After the war Russia is considering of new military doctrine which will in future fit better with the processes like in Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Mr. Blair´s visit to Russia in the end of April 2003 ended to a quarrel between messieurs Putin and Blair.

Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived on May 26th, 2003 in Moscow for a three-day state visit to Russia. The visit included discussions on developing of mutual cooperation between the two countries and planning for further SCO-activities. All joint statements refer to common drive for multipolar world with sufficient justice and equality between nations.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Russia signed on June 19th, 2003 the Joint Declaration on Partnership for Peace and Security, and Prosperity and Development in the Asia-Pacific Region in Phnom Penh. This declaration is one more anti-imperialist element in activities against the US-led imperialism.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries started their joint anti-terrorism maneuvers in Kazakhstan's border city of Ucharal on August 6th, 2003. The world "terrorism" means in this context especially also state terrorism.

On August 6th, 2003, the Chinese President held a meeting with Sirgie Mirunov the Chairman of the Russian Federal Council who was visiting China at present.

August 16th, 2003. Collective Security Treaty Organization -- Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kirgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan decided to advance quickly their military readiness against the growing threat of USA and NATO. Russian military bases will be established in other collective´s countries. In November 2003 a plan for integrating Russian and Byelorussian air defence was published.

In September 2003 Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said they had agreed to concentrate on expanding trade ties. Wen and Kasyanov issued a joint communique after the eighth regular meeting of the Sino-Russian prime ministers. The oil pipeline between the countries will be deployed efficiently.

In October 2003 Moscow warned NATO to end anti-Russian policies, referring especially to contradictions in Georgia. The situation worsened in May 2004 because of the Azjari crisis. Ukraine is another possible confrontation issue between Russia and USA.

US will attack from space? In December 2003 China and Russia called for space arms prohibition.

In October 2003 Russia tied its oil trade with euro and rejected dollar. This act reflects significant untrust on U.S. economy and politics.

In February 2004 Russia threatened to withdraw from the CFE treaty because of NATO´s eastward expansion in Europe. The treaty was designed to limit arms and armed forces in Europe in the eighties.

In March 2004 Russia said there is an option to use nukes in case activities of NATO´s air bases in the Baltics form concrete threat against Russia.

In NATO´s summit in Istanbul in June 2004 NATO demanded Russia to draw its troops from Moldavia. The blueprint of the summit was preparing military and political operations in eastern Europe.

On July 6th, 2004 Russia and China agreed to arrange joint military maneuvers in 2005. At the same time Russian Defense Minister said first time in publicity that Russia will obviously be a target of NATO´s military agression.

In 2004/2006 there were severe confrontations between US-backed Georgia and Russia-backed South Ossetia.

In December 2004 head of Russian Duma´s international commission, Konstantin Kochachev said the relations between EU/NATO and Russia had become very problematic because EU/NATO intentions to add their influence in CIS-countries.

In February 2005 Russia asked East European countries to join the regional security system in order to resist the U.S. and NATO pressure, which has already succeeded to subjugate most of the area of former Yugoslavia and Georgia.

February 3rd, 2005. Russia and China will hold regular security consultations, President Vladimir Putin and visiting Chinese State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan announced moving to further strengthen close military cooperation between the two countries.

In 2005 - 2008 EU and NATO do their utmost to penetrate into the former soviet republics in eastern Europe. The method is to cause internal unrests and to proceed further to "revolutions" of different colours. The Kyrgystan incidents in March 2005 are obviously a part of this process.

In June 2005 CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Oraganization) minister level meeting decided in Moscow to begin to get ready for serious confrontation with the NATO. At first the CSTO members Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia andTajikistan agreed to develope and centralize air defence.

In July 2005 Uzbekistan told Washington to give up U.S. air base at its territory. According to the SCO July declaration the U.S.-led forces must leave also Afghanistan.

In August 2005 joint military maneuvers were carried out by Russia and China. Russia and India planned for corresponding joint activities against U.S. hegemony.

In October 2005 the SCO summit in Moscow reached agreements on concrete measures against the disappearing unipolar world.

In November 2005 Russia and Uzbekistan inked a mutual military agreement.

In December 2005 Russia and India inked a military cooperation agreement.

In the early 2006 it seemed that most the former Soviet republics concentrated again around Russia-Belarus State union except Georgia and Ukraine, which turned to the U.S. and NATO.

March 2006. Anti-imperialism won in Belarus amid president Alexandr Lukashenko´s victory in presidential elections.

March 2006. Anti-imperialism won in Ukraine amid opposition´s victory in parliamentary elections.

May 2006. New cold war and new arms race - started by the U.S. "fortress" between east and west was a fact. Russia´s President said in his speech on May 2006 that Russians must be prepared because of new tensions and dangers. Russia had to begin modernization of its armed forces.

In June 2006 large Russian-Belarussian military drills were held in the framework of the CSTO. No questions of the danger any more. The CSTO must be ready to defend its area against future NATO attack.

In June 2006 Uzbekistan became the seventh member of the CSTO.

September 2006. Russia began a systematic project in order to re-establish the friendly Soviet-era relations with African states.

December 2006. The CSTO members discussed in Minsk of CSTO´s position in the international arena.

November-December 2007. Contradiction between Russia/CSTO and USA/NATO seemed very dangerous because of the US-planned missile and radar bases in Europe and because of Kosovo dispute.

February - March 2008. The Kosovo dispute between west and east did not cause imminent danger of war. But the U.S. missile systems and U.S/NATO military bases in eastern Europe do...

April 2008. The NATO-Russia summit in Bucharest concluded in sharp contradiction. NATO had to withdraw its member invitation to Georgia and Ukraine.

The game gets harder. The West needs ultimately Russian oil and gas but cannot get the eastern natural riches as much as it wants even by money. Principally, there was a corresponding situation before the WWII.

In 2008 Russia with its allies began to implement plans in order its strenghten military power and cooperation globally and especially in the eastern hemisphere.

May 2008. Russian President Dmitri Medvedev visited China. In their joint statement Russia and China condemned the U.S. plans for global ABM missile system.

The tension eased possibly a bit in Russia-USA -summit in Moscow in July 2009.

Already in August 2009 it became obvious that the U.S. had no idea to give up its military plans aganist Russia.

In September 2009 the U.S. gave up its plan for missile systems in Europe. Russia won this part of the game.
